Chef to cook for a birthday evening

Wednesday, October 21, 2009
Double birthday celebrations last night at Wellacres.

We cooked for a 50th birthday celebration which brought 3 generations of the family together. They broke a new record with the amount of party poppers - the children there loved them.

And it was also my birthday - business as usual.

While they loved the slow roast shoulder of pork with crackling for the main course it is always the assiette of desserts which gets the wow factor.

Each one is slightly different depending on what guests choose and this was:

- Lemon tart
- Shotglass of tirimisu
- Japanese spoon of crème brûlée

- Strawberry meringue roulade
- Raspberry shortbread

As the family hailed from yorkshire I thought they might like sage and onion yorkshire puddings to go with the pork with sage from my garden.

Their son didn't do vegetables - the only thing he would eat were onion rings. That was fine - I made some for the first time in nearly 4 years. Turned out so well - it's the simple things......
