Physalis [pronounced 'fiss-arlis' - the most commonly asked question] are also known as cape gooseberries and chinese lanterns. If you live in a good climate you may be able to grow them in your garden. My grandparents had a warm microclimate in their part of Devon, and they grew there for example.

To make them sit on top of a dessert like this.....

......cut a very small sliver off the bottom, so you have a flat surface. The unused end pieces? Well I'm sure you can find something to do with those......
